Description

In this role you will provide administrative support for the patient care and professional activities at the Laser Refractive Center and the Cataract and Refractive Surgery Division of the UCLA Department of Ophthalmology. Responsibilities include: * Schedule patient appointments and surgeries * Check patients in and out for their appointments * Collect payments and assist in billing preparation * Obtain authorizations * Prepare documents and charts within the electronic medical record * Maintain office supplies of various office and consent forms * Answer patients’ questions about refractive surgery pricing, different procedures available, and the differences between resident, fellow, faculty care Learn more about our culture and great benefit packages at: [1] https://www.uclahealthcareers.org/about-us/ Salary Range: $23.49-$33.34 Hourly References Visible links 1. https://www.uclahealthcareers.org/about-us/

Qualifications

Required: * At least one year experience working in an ophthalmology practice * Understanding of basic ophthalmic terminology and familiarity with the signs and symptoms of various ophthalmic problems so as to answer patient questions and know when urgent evaluation is indicated * Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direct ion and in timely manner * Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly in person and on the telephone to communicate to physicians, patients, staff, and other individuals * Excellent verbal and written English language skills * Ability to stay organized and adaptable in an expanding and ever-changing office * Ability to multitask in a busy and stressful environment while maintaining a calm, caring, efficient, and engaging demeanor * Interpersonal skills to maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians, staff, co-workers, patients, and others * Ability to run Apple and Windows operating systems, perform routine maintenance, perform software upgrades, troubleshoot common problems, protect systems from exposure to viruses and other milieus software, and run common applications programs such as email, web browsers, text editors, spreadsheets, calendars, EMR, etc. * Ability to handle heavy telephone traffic and assist callers with their needs or refer them appropriately * Ability to schedule, check in/out, and encounter patients in an electronic appointment registration system Preferred: * 1 year working in a refractive surgery ophthalmology practice
