  • The salary range is the one that Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP reasonably expects to pay for this position. JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of senior members of the department, the Business Development Assistant provides support to the Business Development and Marketing Team. Regular tasks will include assistance with firm materials, pitches, proposals, client research, events and day-to-day administrative support. The Business Development Assistant will need strong writing and proofreading skills, as well as the ability to learn and distill complex concepts as needed. This entry-level position is eligible for a hybrid work environment, which will include regular attendance in the Los Angeles office, as well as work-from-home.
JOB FUNCTIONS
  • General Business Development Support
    • Conduct preliminary research on clients, prospects, industries and related organizations, and coordinate larger requests for information with the Library team.
    • Draft original copy and/or tailor existing content for use in proposals.
    • Format, edit and proofread materials, including web and social media postings, pitch documents, event invitations, and other custom offerings.
    • Draft practice/industry-specific marketing collateral, and liaise with lawyers and other members of the team to update standard content.
    • Add and update matter descriptions to the firm experience database, using firm standard protocols.
    • Add and update proposal information to the pitch tracker and provide relevant data for the firm’s internal BD communications.
    • Provide database support including contact management and internal research, as needed.
    • Attend firm meetings, trainings and other presentations to develop an understanding of the background and experience of attorneys, and how clients leverage their skills.

  • Administrative Support
    • Respond to internal requests for information.
    • Update and maintain the firm website and social media pages with guidance from senior management.
    • Assist with logistics for client events and relevant sponsorships, preparing and shipping materials and providing occasional onsite support.
    • Oversee firm-wide marketing mailings and related requests.
    • Coordinate meetings, presentations and other departmental activities.
    • Process all invoices for the Department, and track spending on an annual basis.
    • Support senior members of the firm with a wide range of special projects.
    • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • 1 year of relevant experience working in a law firm, professional services, or consulting firm. Internships or temporary work will be considered.
  • Strong technical writing skills normally acquired through a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent professional experience.
  • Ability to assess the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of written work product.
  • Ability to author high-quality copy that resonates with sophisticated buyers of legal services.
  • Ability to be flexible as circumstances change regarding assignments, priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to handle concurrent projects at one time with competing and short deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple document edits from multiple contributors, sometimes contemporaneously.
  • Capable of responding to routine questions directly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with attorneys, professionals and peers.
  • Strong interpersonal, organization and follow-up skills.
  • Experience coordinating efforts and collaborating with multiple stakeholders. Strong MS Office Skills, including PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
  • Solid writing, editing and proofreading skills as well as proven success writing professional copy.
  • Flexibility to adjust work schedule according to workload demands, with some night and weekend availability.
  • Ability to proofread in AP Style.
  • Knowledge of law firm practice areas and offerings.
  • Strong understanding of law firm client needs and ability to draft copy that resonates with that audience.
  • Understanding of document versioning and saving under a specific file name convention.
