Collection Systems Technician II [United States]


 

***Effective July 1, 2023, the salary range for this position will receive a 3.8% increase***

The Irvine Ranch Water District is recruiting to fill one (1) Collection Systems Technician II position. The successful candidate will maintain, clean and repair sewage distribution lines, manholes, lift stations and other sewage facilities and equipment. Operate television inspection vehicle, sewer Vactor and hydro-cleaner vehicles.

Summary of Duties

Maintain, clean and repair sewage collection lines, manholes, lift stations and other sewage facilities and equipment.

Responsible for the surveillance and monitoring, and minor repair of stationary equipment, such as lift stations.

Maintain daily records of the operation and maintenance of stationary equipment.

Operate portable pumps, ventilators, generators, pneumatic tools, gas detectors and similar portable equipment.

Perform field maintenance of equipment to assure its proper operation.

Respond to complaints concerning sewer odors, sewer blockages, noisy manhole covers and make corrections or recommendations.

Train and assist the Collection Systems Technician I.

Operate hydro-cleaner, vactor, balling rig, television inspection vehicle, utility trucks or other similar vehicles.

Responsible for traffic control, proper safety procedures and reading and interpreting sewer atlas.

In the absence of the Supervisor, may exercise lead responsibilities; direct and guide the assignments of Collection Systems Technician I.

Participate in a scheduled standby program.

Comply with safety work-related practices and attend relevant safety training.

Responsible for all other work-related duties.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to high school graduation is required. For degrees obtained outside of the U.S., an official equivalency evaluation is required.

  • Completion of water utility related college courses is preferred.

Experience:
  • Two (2) years of experience in sewer maintenance or related field is required.
Licenses/Certificates:

  • Valid Class 'A' California Driver's License is required.
  • CWEA Grade II Collection System Maintenance Certificate required.

Ability to effectively communicate both oral and written. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of office/field employees, management and vendors. Represent District in a professional manner when dealing with customers, outside contractors and agency officials. Ability to advise and provide interpretation to others on how to apply policies, procedures and standards to specific situations.

Mathematical Ability
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.

Technology Ability
Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel). Keyboarding abilities sufficient to perform the job.

Judgment and Situational Reasoning Ability
Ability to use good personal judgment and discretion in performing all job functions.

Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 80 lbs. independently as needed and 81 lbs. or more with assistance on a routine basis. Must be certified annually to wear respiratory equipment. Must be clean shaven such that facial hair does not interfere with the fit of a tight-fitting respirator. Ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, twisting and pulling. Ability to operate equipment and machinery with some operations requiring complex and rapid adjustments. Ability to work in a confined space environment and in underground locations.

Environmental Adaptability
Ability to work under sometimes uncomfortable conditions with exposure to environmental factors such as toxic agents, wildlife, disease, or equipment, high speed traffic, or machinery.
